Terms of Service

The Human Version

Use the app to plan meals and save recipes. Don't do anything illegal or harmful. We'll do our best to keep the service running smoothly, but we can't guarantee perfection. Your recipes are yours. We don't use your data to train AI.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using "What's for Dinner?" (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. Description of Service

"What's for Dinner?" is a meal planning and recipe management application that allows you to:

  • Save and organize recipes
  • Plan weekly meals
  • Generate shopping lists
  • Share recipes with household members
  • Track cooking history
  • Access AI-powered features (paid plans only)

3. Account Registration

You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You're responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password. You're responsible for all activities that occur under your account.

4. Subscription Plans and Billing

4.1 Free and Paid Plans

The Service offers both free and paid subscription tiers. Free accounts have access to core features. Paid plans (Pro at $8/month and Premium at $16/month) unlock additional features including AI-powered meal suggestions, nutrition tracking, pantry scanning, and Google Calendar integration.

4.2 Billing

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly in advance through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. Prices are in US dollars and may be subject to applicable taxes.

4.3 Automatic Renewal

Your subscription automatically renews each billing period until you cancel. We'll send a reminder email before each renewal.

How to Cancel:

  1. Go to Settings → Subscription
  2. Click "Cancel Subscription"
  3. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period
  4. No refunds are provided for partial periods

California Residents: You may cancel at any time through your account settings. We will send a renewal reminder before each billing cycle as required by California law.

4.4 Refunds

We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods. If you cancel, you'll continue to have access until the end of your billing period. For exceptional circumstances, contact us at wfd.beta@gmail.com.

4.5 Price Changes

We may change subscription prices with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers will be notified via email before any price increase takes effect. Current subscribers may be grandfathered at their existing rate at our discretion.

4.6 Failed Payments

If a payment fails, we'll attempt to process it again. After multiple failed attempts, your subscription may be suspended or downgraded to the free tier. You can update your payment method at any time.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or other accounts
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service
  • Upload malicious code or harmful content
  • Violate any intellectual property rights
  • Harass other users
  • Use the service for commercial purposes without permission
  • Abuse AI features or attempt to circumvent usage limits
  • Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the service

6. Your Content

Your Ownership:

  • You retain full ownership of recipes you create
  • You retain ownership of photos and images you upload
  • You retain ownership of any notes, reviews, or other content you add

Our License: By using the service, you grant us a limited license to store, display, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the service. We won't share your recipes publicly without your permission. We will NOT use your content to train AI models.

7. AI-Powered Features

Our Service uses artificial intelligence to enhance your experience. Understanding how these features work is important:

7.1 AI Features We Offer

  • Recipe Nutrition Extraction: AI analyzes ingredients to estimate nutritional values
  • Meal Planning Suggestions: AI recommends recipes based on your preferences
  • Smart Recipe Parsing: AI extracts recipe data from URLs you provide

7.2 Important Limitations

  • AI outputs are for informational purposes only
  • Nutrition data may not be 100% accurate
  • Do NOT rely on AI nutrition for medical dietary decisions
  • AI suggestions are not personalized medical or nutritional advice
  • Always verify important information independently

7.3 Your Data and AI

  • Your data is processed by Anthropic's Claude API
  • Your data is NOT used to train AI models
  • AI processing is real-time only; no data is retained by Anthropic
  • You retain full ownership of your recipes and content

7.4 AI Output Ownership

  • You may use AI-generated suggestions, meal plans, and nutrition estimates freely
  • AI outputs may not qualify for copyright protection under current law
  • We make no guarantees about AI output uniqueness or originality
  • We claim no ownership of AI outputs provided to you

8. Changes to AI Features

AI technology and regulations are rapidly evolving. We reserve the right to:

  • Modify or discontinue AI features with 30 days' notice
  • Update AI providers while maintaining our privacy standards
  • Adjust AI features to comply with new laws and regulations
  • Change AI usage limits based on plan tier

We will notify you of material changes to AI features via email or in-app notification.

9. Beta and Experimental Features

We may offer beta or experimental features from time to time. These features:

  • Are provided "as-is" without warranty
  • May be modified or removed without notice
  • May have reduced functionality or stability
  • Are subject to separate terms if specified
  • May have different usage limits than production features

Your feedback on beta features helps us improve the service.

10. Intellectual Property

The service, including its design, code, branding, and documentation, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer the service without permission.

11. Third-Party Services

The service integrates with third-party services:

  • Google: For OAuth login and Calendar integration. Subject to Google's Terms
  • Stripe: For payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Terms
  • Anthropic: For AI features. Your recipe content is sent to Anthropic for processing. Subject to Anthropic's Terms

Your use of these third-party services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.

12. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but don't guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We'll try to give reasonable notice for significant changes.

13. Data and Privacy

Your use of the service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the service, you consent to our data practices as described there.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

  • Inaccurate AI-generated nutrition information
  • Dietary decisions based on our service
  • Loss of data or recipes
  • Service interruptions

Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months (which, if you're on the free plan, is $0).

15. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Specifically:

  • We don't guarantee that recipes imported from third-party sources are accurate, safe, or appropriate
  • AI-generated nutrition data is an estimate only and should not be used for medical decisions
  • We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service
  • Always use your own judgment when cooking and making dietary choices

16. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. We may terminate or suspend your account if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your right to use the service ends immediately. If you have an active paid subscription, you may still be entitled to a refund for unused time at our discretion.

17. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Significant changes will be communicated through the app and/or email at least 30 days in advance when possible.

18. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of California.
