Set up your first weekly meal plan in minutes.


Plan Your First Week

The meal planner is where you'll spend most of your time in What's for Dinner? Here's how to set up your first week.

Open the Planner

Click Plan in the navigation to open the weekly meal planner. You'll see a calendar view showing the current week with columns for each day.

Add Meals to Your Week

Browse your recipes

Your recipe collection appears on the right side. You can search or filter by tags.

Drag and drop

Drag a recipe from your collection and drop it onto a day. Choose whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Assign a cook (optional)

Click on a meal to assign who's cooking. This is great for couples and families who share cooking duties.

Repeat for the week

Continue adding meals until your week is planned. You don't need to fill every slot—plan what works for you!

Quick Tips

  • Double-click a day to quickly add a recipe
  • Use keyboard shortcuts (1-7) to jump to specific days
  • Right-click a meal for options like swap, remove, or copy

Start simple! You don't need to plan every meal. Many users start by planning just dinners for the week.

Generate Your Shopping List

Once your week is planned, click Shop in the navigation. Your shopping list is automatically generated from the recipes you've planned!
